Psalms 3+4
Following along with the previous two Psalms, in Pslams 3 and 4, David illustrates the closeness and sovereignity of God as well as God’s relational nature. David prays to God as if he is talking to a king who is out for David’s best interst. “I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.” (verses 5+6) David recognizes God as both a sustainer and a protector.
In Psalm 4, David illustrates similar themes and adds an illustration of what it looks like to follow God only. “How long will you men turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false Gods? Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself: the Lord hears when I call him.” Again, it seems as if David is hinting at a higher way to live: A way of holiness rather than simple obedience to the rules. In seeking God first, two things happen. First – God meets us. Second – we are able to see that our answers and blessings came from God because we have allowed for no other option in our hearts and minds. God provides, and on our end, we recognize His providence.
your last observation is a beautifully powerful way of explaining how we can see/know God at work in our lives. since were have allowed for no other option in our hearts and minds it is obvious that our answers and blessings have come from God! that’s something i’ve always wondered how to explain.
glad you’re digging in deep. i can see already how God is using this summer to grow you in amazing ways
